This year, on my 50th birthday, my thoughtful parents took me to Teaberry’s—an elegant tea room in Flemington, New Jersey.
Teaberry’s opened for business twelve years ago and makes its home in a lovely 1822 Federal style colonial right on Main Street. The owner, Susan Peterson, envisioned a place where people could enjoy tea, good food, and gracious conversation. Her daughter is the manager. It’s always great to support a family-owned/operated business!
My birthday luncheon was very enjoyable with my parents and my daughter. We had reservations for 11:30 am (reservations are recommended) so we ordered lunch although they do have tea sandwiches and scones available as well.
Ironically, I ordered their turkey, pear & brie sandwich called “The Shelley” and giggled at the thought of how Shelley ate the Shelley on her birthday!!
I also ordered a pot of ginger and lemongrass tea and thoroughly enjoyed the bright flavor and subtle ginger after notes.
I didn’t order dessert but our waitress surprised me with a small lemon bar topped with a birthday candle and invited the whole room to sing “Happy Birthday” to me which was embarrassing and enjoyable at the same time.
To visit Teaberry’s, call for a reservation and enjoy a little day trip — not far from Philadelphia — to the quaint village of Flemington, NJ.
